Global legal transformation programme

The brief

A tier one global bank embarked upon a global transformation programme with the objective to accelerate the ongoing evolution of the bank’s world-class legal department, drive net reduction in total headcount and reduce global costs. ​The client therefore contracted us to improve processes, harmonise and standardise controls and implement consistent behaviours across the legal department (spanning roughly 1,000 employees across 45 countries).​

Our approach

Due to the scale of this programme, it required a team of experts across multiple workstreams, involving the following key activities:

  • Driving reporting, monitoring and execution of the programme initiatives with the client’s HR, finance and legal COO team counterparts;
  • Working closely with the Head of Legal Change to define processes, methods and workflows in order to ensure successful delivery tracking of the programme;​
  • Supporting workstream leads and project managers to undertake any remedial actions to ensure they were completed in a timely manner;
  • Building strong relationships with key stakeholders across the function, helping to facilitate effective communication.​

The solution and key benefits

By simplifying the operating model and shaping the organisational design for efficacy, the bank was able to increase efficiency across the entire global legal function. Following completion of the programme, the client achieved enhanced cost control mechanisms that significantly improved the departments on-going cost management. We also reallocated any additional investments into technology – supporting the client in defining their technology strategy and roadmap.​
